The Tibet Autonomous Region, perched on the southwest Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, is a southwestern frontier region in China. Tibet has long been better known as "the Roof of the World", with an average altitude of over 4,000 meters. This is a land of snow-capped mountains, deep tropical rainforests and open pastureland.
